The Problem

journal politics

The problem is that guns are sacred.

No one uses that word, but for some people, they might as well be. They are so much a part of our mythology that they have become symbols, so that we forget the reality that they are just tools for committing murder. They are not magic wands for preserving your freedom. When freedoms are taken away, it is done with the stroke of a pen, far out of range--or else, by the ideas held by those around you, which drive them to hold you back. But they do it so peacefully and so pervasively that no violent battle would ever be justified, nor would it settle the matter.
